The Importance of the Project
I believe that if I can along with a group of volunteers instill students about the horrors of dropping out and the benefits of getting an education it will greatly aid the community. This will give more students more confidence to stay in school and possibly have successful futures. The poverty in my community is due to the fact that most of those individuals dropped out of school before graduating high school. We have about a 38.6% dropout rate at the high school I attend. The fact is that if the rate continues to rise then we will have a cycle of poverty continuing forever. We, the community of Johnston, SC, can and will not allow this. We will teach young adults how to write essays, resumes, and do mock interviews to mix it up a little for the young adults. We will get advice from teachers and counselers to see if any young adult has any special need that we need to attend to. We will ask Mayor Campbell who holds a PhD and is a minority to talk to the young adults about staying in school. We have not decide about having high school drop outs come in or not that all depends on the amount of time and their schedule. If we can target the young audience, the ideas will spread like a wild fire until everyone will want to stay in school and poverty will decrease.
